I'm sure the same thing, and the "mask" is short for "masquerade".
According to Wikipedia, "Masquerade" will allow each of the following characteristics:
~ A farce, which is a form of court entertainment festival in the 17 and early 16th Century Europe blossomed.
~ A masked ball, sometimes as a farce.
~ A mask, in French.
